Meeting The Mentor

The mentor in my book, Behemoth, is Alek, to a fabricated creature that hatched from it's egg when Alek was in the same room as it. The creature was later named Bovril. It has the ability to talk to express it's feelings and follows Alek around everywhere because it think Alek is it's mother. Bovril learns words by repeating bits of conversation to Alek and his other companions.

Hero(s) in Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

In this story, the protagonist is Deryn ("Dylan") Sharp. She is a girl who pretends to be a boy to be in the British air force. The character traits she has are: Bravery, because she risks getting in trouble for pretending to be a boy; self-sacrifice, because she risked her own life to be in the air force.

                    "right, then." The flight captain stepped in front of the line. "Now that the Monkey Luddites have been cleared out, who'd like to go first?"
                    Without hesitation, without a thought of what Jaspert had said about not drawing attention, and with the last squick of nerves in her belly gone, Deryn took one step forward.
                     "Please sir, I'd like to fly."

I think this picture represents what I said above because everyone else in Harry's class was afraid of Buckbeak but he went forward and patted it.

Decisions in Leviathan

When the British airbeast: The Leviathan, crash lands outside of Alek's hideout in Switzerland, with wounded men in desperate need of food and supplies, Alek is faced with the decision of risking his safety and helping the enemy, or stay in his castle and watch them die. Even though he is hunted by both Allies and Axis, he could still be seen as an enemy because of his nationality. I predict that he will make it out alive if he decides to help them and he could make some friends doing so too.

Ordinary World of Prince Aleksander

The book I am reading is Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. Prince Aleksander of Austria-Hungary's ordinary world is his father's palace. Here is where he is when the story begins and he must leave the palace. He thinks at first he is going to practice driving the stormwalker when they tell him his parents have been assassinated and he must leave Austria-Hungary.
I chose this picture because the Germans and Austrians start chasing Alek and his men when they are fleeing in their stormwalker.

Archetypes In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter is a 16 year old wizard that goes to Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry. The archetype he represents is the Hero. I think this because he only wants to overthrow Lord Voldemort, the dark wizard who killed his parents and tried to kill him when he was a baby to lead a normal life without constant fear someone he loves will be killed.

It was important, Dumbledore said, to fight, and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then could evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated. -- page 644

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

"And anyway, life's too short... look at Madam Bones, look at Emmeline Vance... it could be me next, couldn't it? But if it is,' he said fiercely, now looking straight into Dumbledore's blue eyes, gleaming in  the wand-light, 'I'll make sure I take as many Death Eaters with me as I can, and Voldemort too if I can manage it." - Harry Potter page 77-78

I have learned that Harry does not care if he dies, only if his friends survive and Voldemorts dead he will be content to die. Unlike Voldemort, Harry cares for only his friends and allies when Voldemort does not care for anything except to do evil. Liek the zombies in this video.

Lord Of The Flies - Reminds me of...

The book Lord Of The Flies reminds me of another book called: "Hatchet." Which was about this boy who went off to see his father who lives in Canada over the summer via bushplane. But then the pilot has a heart attack and dies. Leaving the boy (who's name is Brian) to crash the plane in the wilderness, and learn to survive by himself with nothing but his hatchet. These stories are different in more ways than they are similar. For example, in Lord Of The Flies, there a large group of children whereas in Hatchet there is only one. But the things that they have in common are that both stoires involved crash landings, no adults, and survival.
